The embedded warning tile, known as a safety tile, comes in several sizes and dome patterns (linear or alternating alignment), as well as a variety of possible colors.
Informal service testing by Tegula personnel has shown over 3 years of unchanged performance for sidewalk/pavement products, such as an outdoor tile, that remain in place with no need for replacement. Comparable commercial products, made from concrete, polymer-coated concrete, and carbon steel, reveal significant degradation after 3 years, such as cracking, chipping, fading, and rust formation, that can require immediate replacement or planned change-out at 5 to 6 years.
Building Facade Tiles:
Tegula has partnered with the Center for Architecture Science and Ecology (CASE) team at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to produce building façade tiles for the High-performance Masonry System (HpMS) technology. HpMS utilizes the ambient energy environment around a building structure to reduce the heating/cooling cycle peaks and valleys, as well as generate electricity through the use of thermoelectric devices. This building technology requires a variety of design features to maximize energy capture, release, and utilization, and leads to energy savings of up to 25%. Customized solutions for a building façade project, based on physical orientation and location, surrounding building environment, and floor-by-floor building function (among other considerations), are key for achieving optimized energy usage.
